Selection of Red Riojas

A selection of inexpensive red Riojas

Vega Piedra 2010 Tempranillo
Bright red and blackberry fruits, very elegant for such an inexpensive Rioja. Sweet fruits on the palate, good balance, fresh and clean. Very good.

Artesa Rioja 2011 Tempranillo
More classic nose, denser and riper red/black fruits. Sweet fruits on the palate, good balance and excellent finish.

Vega Del Rayo 2011 Tempranillo
A bit more earthy and deeper fruit flavours. Sweeter and richer, darker fruits, excellent on the palate and a long finish. Rounder and fuller than the Artesa.

Cepasantiguas 2010 Rioja
Reductive, and dirty! Sorry. A new bottle please.

Zarabanda Rioja 2009
Dark fruits, high in acidity, slightly disjointed!

Vega del Rayo 2009 Seleccionada
Lovely fruit, ripe and full, gently coated in vanilla. Good weight in the mouth, lovely red and blackberry fruits, well balanced. Great value for money.

Artesa Organic 2009
6 Months in oak. Bright lifted nose of dark fruits, quite chunky and more structured in the mouth. More tannins, quite a rustic finish.

Martinez Corta 2010 Semi Crianza
Ripe nose, sweet and rich, a little earthy. Sweet dark fruits on the palate, very engaging, big mouth feel. Good balancing acidity. Big wine for the money.
