Beaujolais Nouveau Day!

Today is possibly the world's best known wine party.

Beaujolais Nouveau is the new wine from the first harvest of grapes in the Beaujolais region of France. At one minute past midnight on the third Thursday in November, over a million cases of Beaujolais begin their journey across France with a race to get the first bottles to different places across the world. The race is often celebrated with a 'Beaujolais Breakfast' at home or in restaurants.

What makes Beaujolais Nouveau special?

Well, it's one of only a handful of wines that are produced, bottled and released within a few weeks of harvest. This gives the wine lots of instant drinkability.

What does it taste like?

Each year it will taste slightly different depending on the weather the Beaujolais region has experienced but it is always fresh and fruity with cherry, strawberry and raspberry flavours.

How should I drink it?

You'll want to chill the wine for about 15 minutes in the fridge before drinking as this will enhance the fresh fruit flavours. Drink within a few months of release too as the wine has almost no tannins, which is one of the main preservatives of red wine.
