New wines from California

These wines will have you jumping through hoopes!

We're really chuffed that we have managed to get some of these wines on our shelves, because they are seriously good wines. Hoopes wines are family grown and owned, in their words you can read the story of this wonderful producer below;

Spencer Hoopes loves wine and he also loves farming. What began as a passion for collecting wine and the land soon went beyond that. In 1983 Spencer planted his ten acre vineyard in the Oakville area of Napa Valley, California. With the remarkable terroir, a little bit of luck and a lot of love, we quickly found a home for the grapes in some of the better wineries in Napa Valley.

Fifteen years later, he decided to take some of those grapes off the market and put them into bottles with the Hoopes name on the label. Spencer Hoopes had always loved aromatic wines with balance and structure, and he wanted to make that kind of wine with the grapes from his own vineyard. And so he launched Hoopes Cabernet.

Hoopes wines are classic Cabernets that capture the pure relationship between grape-grower and winemaker with an old-world-meets-new-world style profile. The philosophy is simple: minimise after-harvest manipulation of the grape so that you can enjoy the most important ingredient in its true form. This is true grower-made wine.

Dante was Spencer Hoopes' beloved terrier. His image graces the Hoopes wine label and serves as the energetic inspiration for Hoopes Family Wines. Since the first vintage he has been jumping through the hoop of an old barrel as the focal point of Hoopes Wines. Recently the label was updated, and an embossed gold-leaf image of Dante now appears front and centre, jumping through the hoop of a barrel. The new label reflects the bold, yet elegant style of wine that Hoopes has become known for producing.

Dante is still leaping today somewhere, in an even happier place. Hoopes now has two new rescue dogs, Sophie and Maya, who are as energetic as Dante was, but times two! In a lot of ways, Hoopes winery is just getting started!

The Wines

Cabernet Sauvignon 'The Mutt' Hoopla 2013, Napa Valley

A Cabernet Sauvignon from California's prestigious Napa Valley region - it's what they do best. The wine is inspired by the owner's rescue dogs - Sophie and Maya who love to play in the vineyards. This playful character is reflected in the wine through its lively raspberry and blackberry fruits, alongside notes of fresh cream. Soft, creamy and delicious with all meats.

Cabernet Sauvignon Hoopes 2012, Napa Valley

From Oakville Napa Valley, comes this big Cabernet Sauvignon. A luscious, deep wine with layers of compelling ripe cassis, blackberry and cherry fruit with more intriguing notes of baking spices and leather. Although there is an explosion of flavour on the palate, it is so well made that it finishes supple and velvety. Drink with nothing less than the finest cut of steak you can afford!
