Marlborough Single Vineyards

Sarah Lowe and her husband who are both teachers in the UK take fruit from the family contract grape growing farm in Marlborough to make their wines. They have a family friend who is a French-trained winemaker and who makes the wines for them and then they sell the wine in the UK to London restaurants and friends. They are now on their second vintage of 2011 SB, first vintage of Pinot Gris, although the fruit for this comes from a friend nearby.

Sarah and her husband have very clear ideas of the style of the wine they wish to produce, which is very European, food-orientated and sits right in the alternative Marlborough sphere.

Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Delicate nose, very minerally, lime & citrus characters, showing some complexity from its bottle age, well balanced finish, would not have been out of place if discovered in Pouilly Fume!

Sauvignon Blanc 2011
A little more zesty and fresh than the 2010, with gentle hints of tropical fruit. Crisp and clean on the finish.

Pinot Gris 2011
A little more opulent and “Marlborough-ness” than the two SB’s, good spicy pear character, an excellent textured mouthfeel.

This is an evolving project and we will watch the development of these wines with interest.
