Domaine Direct

Tasting with Rob McCulloch from Domaine Direct

Coteaux du Giennois 2010 les Genets Gris Jean Ferrand Thibault
Just over the border from Sancerre, closer to Pouilly Fume. 100% stainless steel, and 100% SB. Delicate citrus nose, really quite elegant. Citrus/grapefruit on the palate, tight and concentrated, good minerality, big finish. The finish is almost bigger than the palate.

Pinot Noir 2011, Les Parcs, Guy Allion
Summer fruits, gently herby, beetroot! On the palate good balance and fruit flavours, supple tannis and good balance, not as pretty and appealing as the 2009!

Domaine de L'Abbaye Bourgogne, Epineuil 2009 Cote de Grisey
Dark fruits with a hint of spice/herbs, herby on the palate with dark fruits, quite structured. Classic Bourgogne.

Morgon 2010 Domaine de Rochemure
10 hectare domaine. Ripe juicy nose, appealing red and blackberry fruits, excellent fruit on the palate, great balance and a good finish. really classy.

Pinot Noir 2008 Nalle Russian River Hopkins Ranch.
Elegant toasty red fruit nose, quite restrained for California. Complex palate, lovely combination of spice fruit combining well with the gentle use of oak. Long finish, with a gentle spice. This is a must try, it will surprise. At £25 its not cheap, but if put up against a £25 bottle of Burgundy I know which bottle you will take home!

Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Rudera, South Africa
Typical Cabernet nose, bold and distinctive, dark fruits, typically chunky, good suppleness for a Cabernet, good length. Needs food. Long finish.
