Alan says

Creme de cassis is made from blackcurrants that are crushed and soaked in ethanol, with sugar subsequently added. It is mostly made in Burgundy and this particular one is from the famous Burgundian town of Nuits-St-Georges. Wonderful on its own as a liqueur, but possibly most famous as the liqueur used in Kirs and Kir Royale!
