Alan says

Originally from Slovenia, production moved to Trieste in Italy in 1991 after independence, Sambuca is famous as being the liqueur of anise seeds a bit like Pernod or Ricard. It is a very versatile drink as it can be drunk neat, or on ice, or with coffee beans, or in a cocktail, or in coffee, or famously in a shot glass and then set on fire for a few  seconds to increase its flavour.
