Italian Tasting with Marcato Direct

Sample tasting

Prosecco Frizzante Canella NV

Made by a large producer in Veneto. Lots of lemon spritz, clean and lively, pleasant and makes you want a second glass! Very refreshing.

Iprandi Spumante NV

Made from an indigenous grape variety to Verona, called 'Durello'. I've certainly not tasted this variety before and what a surprise! Rich almost caramel apple nose, lots of lovely rich biscuit flavours, concentrated with nice structure. Much more going on here than your average Prosecco! And talking about length... it's still going as I type! A snip at £7.99

Marcato 36 Meses NV

A blend of 3 different vintages, 3 years on the lees. Fresh and fruity again with good acidity keeping it so beautifully fresh. Durello only used for sparkling wines. Really quite fresh.

Soave Brandi 2012

Delightfully fresh tropical fruit nose, lots of intensity of rich biscuity apple and toastiness the palate. Bold and fruity with a richness on the finish. Fresh, bright and varietally correct. A winner at £7.50!

Valpolicella San Cassiano 2011

Mix of Corvina, Molinara for aroma and rondinella for acidity. Vibrant cherry colour, very fruity nose, sheer purity of fruit on the palate. Dark fruit, nicely chewy tannins, rich and brooding. £10.99

Chianti Colli Senesi Vitanza 2010

Fresh black fruit perfumes, hugely drinkable palate of fresh, peppered sour cherry fruit and lots of balanced juiciness but in a chunkily structured style. Lots of balanced acidity.

Rosso di Montalcino Vitanza 2010

Richly peppered and spiced nose. Gentle attack of ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit on the palate. All power with juicy tannins but seriously supple and textured too. Delicioso! It's got some real class and at under £15 it's a steal!

Barbera d'Asti La Quercia Andrea Faccio 2008

Dark plummy and floral nose, followed by heaps of rich fruit cake style flavours, sweet spices, currants and stacks of drinkability! £15. Si, si, si!

Nebbiolo Tre Ponti Villa Giada Andrea Faccio 2007

70% Nebbiolo. I can't help but smell almonds and meatiness on the nose with a purity of prune fruit, rich but elegant with a splash of vanilla. Amazing structure with smooth velvetiness. £15.

I'm sure there will be some listings here - keep your eyes peeled!
