The Pinotage that Philip likes!

Yes, you read that right!

If you've been a customer of Amps Fine Wines for a while then you're probably familiar with the fact that Philip Amps does not like Pinotage. As staff, we have never heard Philip be pleasant about a Pinotage... until now that is! The truth is that he didn't want us to feature this wine - his words: 'Don't tell too many people, or they might start buying it!' Well, if it's good enough for Philip...

Pinotage Liberté B Vintners 2014, South Africa

Winemakers (and cousins) Gavin Bruwer and Bruwer Raats made it their mission to find a plot of land where this grape variety would flourish. Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault grape varieties, which grow best in cooler areas. Pinotage is always planted in warmer areas and produces a blockbuster style of wine.

Gavin and Bruwer went in search of a cooler climate area in South Africa's Stellenbosch region, where they discovered a high altitude vineyard. All of the grapes for this wine are grown on weathered soils, enjoy close ocean influences and are hand selected to ensure that only the very best fruit is used.

The result is simply the best Pinotage that we have tasted, as it is unlike any other! A very pretty style of wine with lifted dark berry fruit scents, then a palate bursting with silky flavours of blackcurrant and red cherries, a lovely herbal twist and a lingering flavour of blueberries.

Best enjoyed with game.
