The 2016 Domaine Jones Grenache Noir is made mostly from old vine Grenache planted in the vineyard under the imposing Cathar Castle of Queribus in Maury in the Roussillon where Domaine Jones started back in 2009. It’s a concentrated, soft red with pure, fresh mulberry and red fruits. Smooth, lively fruit, pure strawberries, raspberries and a silky smooth texture. It’s just beautifully balanced. Thanks to the minimal use of oak the tannins are silky and smooth with savoury damson acidity and a good balance. The wine is decidedly moreish and approachable but not simple and is perfect with steak, casseroles or more simply with pâté and toast.
