Salice Salentino burst onto the UK market in the late ’90’s – affordable, with a burst of fruit to match the style of new world wines, whilst offering an authentic Italian character. Vallone were then one of the pioneers, and are still one of its very best exponents.
Ripe and fruity aromas pull into the glass whilst the palate is a little Syrah-like with its touch of spice to balance the stack of ripe, sweet black fruit. The nose is ripe and openly fruity with hints of liquorice and raisins. The palate has a touch of spice to balance the black fruit and ripe tannins. Wonderful balance of sweet ripeness and bitterness, typical of the Negroamaro grape, held together by fresh acidity and given added complexity by a touch of spicy oak. The perfect accompaniment to Italian tomato pasta dishes. Also great with red meats, such as hot roast beef and grain mustard, or perhaps a bean and lentil casserole.
