Barberesco Martinenga takes its name from Marchesi di Gresy’s Martinenga vineyard situated in the commune of Barbaresco. This single vineyard has the shape of an amphitheatre. Hand-harvested in early October. 8-10 days fermentation followed by 20-30 days maceration on the skins, The wine is aged in 225 litre French oak barriques for 12 months and then a proportion is aged in Slavonian oak casks for 12 months also. The wine is finally aged in bottle before release.
This wine is a beast! An un-believably concentrated red. Bright red cherries, floral and vanilla spice aromas. The palate “sings”! Lots of ripe red berry fruit, spice, dried fruits and toasty flavours. This has got so much power and structure as well as this vibrant freshness.
