When I met the winemaker from Mountford, they explained to me that they specialise in ageing wines in bottle before release. Here there are none of the petroleum characters you might expect from older Riesling, there are just lovely fresh mango and apricot aromas mingled with dried fruit and honey. To taste it’s off dry, with green apple fruit intensity, quince flavours and a citrus kick to balance, great length too. It’s so good, it’s mesmerising! I enjoyed it with a lemon chicken tagliatelle dish.
