Wakefield is a third generation family wine business and was founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor, who was inspired by his love for the red wines of Bordeaux’s Medoc region. He was drawn to South Australia’s Clare Valley where the cool climate was known to be ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
The St Andrews wines are the pinnacle of the Wakefield portfolio, showcasing the very best in handcrafted winemaking. The first wines from the range were released in 1999 and have developed a reputation as benchmark examples of great Clare Valley wine since. As their flagship wines, they are made with grapes sourced from the best blocks on the family estate and only released in the finest vintages.
This wine is well balanced with ripe blackcurrant, along with chocolate and mint mingling with oak characters of cedar and subtle tobacco. Layers of complexity and and an elegant, long finish. It’s a generous wine yet retains poise and the elegance of great Cabernet Sauvignon.
