Albarino is firmly in the mainstream, but its Portuguese cousin Alvarinho is really hitting its stride and this is proof that it can can be every bit as compelling. It’s made by a family so entrenched in the winemaking lands of Vinho Verde country that their idea of a ‘new house’ is one built in the 17th century on land owned by the family since the 12th century! This wine wowed the judges at The Wine Merchant Top 100 competition last year, with its “honeyed, balanced flavours of acacia and lime. It carries its sweetness well, it’s quite rich, and it’s just the kind of wine you need for matching a variety of occasions, with that tangy, fresh acidity making it so lively”.
Drink with chicken, fish or sushi.
