Chateau Argadens was bought by Maison Sichel in 2002, with the simple aim to become one of the benchmark properties in the Bordeaux Superieur category (wines made from classic Bordeaux grape varieties but of a superior quality to generic Bordeaux wines). To achieve this, the company put a vast renovation programme in place and now, not surprisingly, the wines achieve consistently high marks in tastings and competitions. This is an unashamedly modern Bordeaux with lots of concentrated fruit and attractive, supple balance. Expressive on the nose with a mixture of dark red fruit aromas and elegant oaky notes. It’s fresh but has plenty of sweet, rich fruit and soft mouthfeel. To drink from 2020, this has 5-10 years ageing potential. Uncork with a steak pie for a delicious pairing.
