Earlier this month, on Friday 8th August, we brought a taste of California to the courtyard outside our Market Place shop with our first-ever Zin & Grill evening. From 4pm-8pm, guests gathered to enjoy a complimentary, relaxed and informal tasting of six Californian Zinfandels, guided by our wine buyer, Ashley. From lighter, fruit-driven styles to rich, powerful reds, everyone had the chance to taste and compare different styles and regions, discovering just how diverse the Zinfandel grape can be.
To complement the wines, the barbecue was fired up, offering guests the option to order a pheasant or venison skewer in pitta bread with coleslaw. The smoky, savoury flavours paired beautifully with the boldness of the wines.
With the sun shining, laughter and chatter filling the courtyard, the smoky scent of the barbecue in the air and glasses clinking together, it really felt like a little corner of California right here in Oundle. The turnout was far beyond our expectations… every table and chair was taken, so we had to draft in extra staff at the last minute to keep up with demand! The buzz was fantastic, we loved seeing so many people enjoying good wine in such a relaxed and sociable setting.
